Rebecca Bluestone is a contemporary abstract artist using traditional tapestry techniques and hand-dyed silks of varied textures and sheens and metallic threads woven on a cotton warp as her medium. Instead of applying paint to canvas, she dyes the fibers first and then, in essence, weaves her own canvas. The following are just a few of the public and private collections containing Rebecca's work; Chicago Art Institute, Museum of Arts & Design, NYC, Denver Art Museum, Albuquerque Museum, New Mexico State Capitol, US Embassy in Ottawa, Canada and the private collection of Robert Redford. Her work has been regularly seen in national publications including, THE NEW YORK TIMES, AMERICAN CRAFT, FIBERARTS and SOUTHWEST ART.
Classical Guitarist Robert Bluestone has earned an international reputation as an artist of the first rank. He was the most requested solo artist on the prestigious WESTAF (Western States Arts Federation) Performing Arts Tour Roster from 1991-1996. He has received the Mayor of Santa Fe's Outstanding Achievement in the Arts Award for his leading role in the cultural life of his home city and state and in 2001 received the Betty Connors Award for outstanding volunteer service to the Western Arts Alliance and performing arts in the West.
Together the Bluestone's share a unique collaboration of classical guitar and woven tapestries called WOVEN HARMONY. Each using tightly strung handmade wooden instruments they intently draw upon the subtleties of their individual discipline and meet in the middle with a common language. Their presentations evolved out of their desire to use their artistic expression as a way to communicate about the things that they feel are truly important in life and to share how creativity and imagination can allow us access to connection, empathy and compassion. They are committed to going into a wide variety of settings sharing their artistry, relationship and experiences. |
